Diverticular Disease

Diverticular disease is a gastrointestinal condition and is the collective term for both diverticulosis and diverticulitis. Diverticulosis refers to the small pockets like structures form in the lining of the large bowel. Diverticulitis occurs when these pouches become inflamed or infected. Dietitians can help individuals to avoid diverticulitis flare ups through dietary modification. Additionally dietitians can assist with the management of symptoms and reducing large bowel irritation during diverticulitis flare ups.
